PRODUCT FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENTS
Are you a scientist or engineer who has a new technological breakthrough, and want to complete a product feasibility assessment to confirm it can be made into a product? Simplexity engineers perform early discovery work to help you prove out your concept through feasibility assessments routinely. We call this Phase 0 of our Product Development Process.
WHY PERFORM A PRODUCT FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENT?
Early-stage feasibility assessments help prove out a concept for viability. This type of assessment can be critical both from a performance, manufacturability and eventual cost perspective and provide estimates of future development investments. Creating rough engineering models or CAD concepts can be helpful to demonstrate feasibility for cost, form factor, and functional constraints.
A few examples of early technology feasibility assessments that clients have asked Simplexity to perform include:
- Determining if there is a motor, drive train and battery combination capable of delivering enough power to perform a mixing operation in 30 seconds, yet still fit with a compact size at a reasonable cost. (Yes, there was, and the result is captured in the award-winning Opulus Luxury Skincare Device).
- Determining the possible size and how to best simplify the design of a new handheld printing technology.
- Creating a full product development plan for a medical device. This includes asking questions to better understand the end product goals, advising on the FDA requirements, figuring out which technology would benefit from feasibility assessment prototypes, assessing risks, and giving a cost estimate for the product development effort.
- Developing multiple rapid prototypes/concepts for vascular monitoring devices for Oregon Health and Sciences University
