Consumer Devices
We have the experience to connect the digital and physical worlds
Simplexity believes that the true promise of smart devices lies in increasing the level of interaction between the digital and physical world. That means designing connected consumer devices that improve health, home, business, and society at large while meeting CPSC regulations for product safety. The sheer breadth of connected consumer devices means that no one product development firm can specialize in all areas. Simplexity has chosen to focus on wearables, AR/VR, smart homes, and printing.

AR/VR
The AR/VR space has many unique challenges that Simplexity has become familiar with over the last several years working with a number of clients. Today’s augmented and virtual reality headsets include advanced displays, stereo sound, and motion-tracking sensors.
Some aspects are not uncommon to other consumer devices - ID driven form factors, attention to weight and center of mass, common sensors, and components for audio/connectivity/LCDs. On the other hand, areas that set the AR/VR space apart include the extreme limits of form factor and weight constraints for a true “glasses” feel. Additionally, precision and speed are needed to accurately track eye movements and adjust focus in real-time while immense data rates are required to provide such a unique user experience in a small package.
Whether it’s developing R&D tools to characterize and refine cutting edge designs upfront or getting those designs through production manufacturing at a viable cost point, experience gained in working on these complex systems adds a lot of value to the process and helps identify and avoid pitfalls early.
Our experience designing such complex electromechanical systems, including dealing with compact physical spaces, tight tolerances, thermal constraints, and strict performance requirements allows us to be an integral part of AR/VR development and we are excited to continue helping clients grow in this fast-moving field.
Smart Homes
In recent years there has been a proliferation of devices that automate, monitor and control individual homes. These include a wide range of cameras, thermostats, lighting solutions, and security systems that are turning homes into a hub for connectivity and sensor solutions. Simplexity has worked with clients to develop proof-of-concept prototypes for novel sensing applications inside and outside the home.
Printing
Simplexity has unparalleled experience developing printing products, ranging from handheld devices to plotters. Whether it’s understanding the nuances of thermal inkjet printing or designing an automatic page feed mechanism, Simplexity has done it.
Simplexity’s capabilities and expertise
Simplexity brings together technical experts in mechanical, electrical, firmware, controls, and systems engineering. When it comes to connected consumer product development, we focus on areas such as:
- Sensors, sensor fusion, and signal conditioning
- Data processing algorithms
- Firmware development
- Electrical hardware development in low-power applications
- Mechanical hardware development for low-cost, high-volume processes
- Wireless technologies
- Battery technologies
At Simplexity, our core design philosophy is that the best solution is the simplest one to reliably accomplish your goals, and our cross-disciplinary team is ready to help you do just that.
